The Rowan University baseball team had six players that were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Mid-Atlantic All-Region Teams.

Pitchers Josh Schwartz (jr. Wenonah, NJ/Gateway Reg.) and Tom McCullen (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirt) and catcher Michael Rucci (jr. Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) were chosen to the All-Region first team. Second baseman Nick Urbanovich (sr. Rutherford, NJ/St. Peter?s Prep) was a member of the second team while right fielder Bryan Ciconte (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and pitcher Brian McLaughlin (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape Reg.) received third team honors.

This week, Schwartz was also chosen the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Mid-Atlantic Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season. In 12 starts, Schwartz has a 12-0 record with an ERA of 1.46. In 98.2 innings, he has recorded 91 strikeouts. This season Schwartz has pitched six complete games and three shutouts. He posted a 6-0 shutout over Johns Hopkins (May 22) in the third game of the regional tournament. Schwartz was selected the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Pitcher of the Year and to the AllConference first team for the second straight year. He was also the 2004 New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Pitcher of the Year. Schwartz has won 23 straight games which started with his last win in his freshman season. Last year, he had a 10-0 pitching record.

This season, McCullen has an 11-1 record in 15 starts. He has posted a 1.63 ERA in 99.1 innings. He was chosen to the All-State first team and to the All-Conference second team. McCullen was the wininng pitcher in the Profs? 8-2 regional win over DeSales. Rucci is batting .339 with 60 hits in 177 at bats and 38 runs scored and 47 RBIs. He has the top slugging percentage (.582). His extra base hits include 11 doubles, one triple and 10 home runs.

Urbanovich is hitting .345 and he has 33 RBIs and 13 stolen bases (18 attempts). He leads the team with 47 runs scored and 32 walks. Urbanovich was also an All-State second team selection.

Ciconte has a batting average of .346 with 55 hits in 159 at bats. He has contributed with 36 RBIs and 43 runs scored. Ciconte has totaled seven doubles, one triple and five homeruns. He was a member of the AllConference and All-State first teams.

A rookie, McLaughlin has a 6-2 record in 11 starts. He has pitched 76 innings and has a 3.55 ERA. McLaughlin was the winning pitcher against William Paterson in the final game of the conference championship tournament. He was tabbed for the All-State Rookie squad. Schwartz, McCullen, Urbanovich and Ciconte were also selected to the regional All-Tournament team.

This week, Rowan (40-6) is playing in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, Fri.-Tue., May 28June 1 at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, WI. The Profs will play on Friday against Wis.-Whitewater at 5:30 p.m.
