A short film made as part of the Rowan University/University of Osnabrueck (Germany) cooperative exchange program will be shown during the Garden State Film Festival on Saturday, March 27, in Asbury Park.

The film, Mysterious Cases, was written, directed, and edited by University of Osnabrueck student Jens Aasman. He began the project in the summer of 2002 as an assignment for a Film Theory and Technique course team taught by Rowan radio/TV/film professor Joseph Bierman and Rowan film production coordinator Sean O?Leary.

The two taught a four-week condensed version of the Rowan course in Osnabrueck, Germany, as part of an exchange program conceived and created by Rowan Radio/TV/Film Professor Richard Grupenhoff. Since its inception in 2000, the exchange has resulted in more than 15 German students studying at Rowan, more than a dozen Rowan students studying in Osnabrueck, and faculty members from each university lecturing at the exchange institutions.

Shot on digital video, Mysterious Cases pokes fun at paranormal ?documentary? style television programs, while imitating their form perfectly, O?Leary said. Both he and Bierman make cameo appearances in the film. Garden State Film Festival organizers have said Mysterious Cases is a contender for recognition in the festival?s ?Best Student Short? category.
