On Tuesday, September 2, Rowan University will celebrate the dedication of the campus?s newest facility, Science Hall.

The official opening ceremony with remarks from Rowan University President Dr. Donald Farish, Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Jay Harper and other officials will begin at 1:30 p.m. with self-guided tours of the facility to follow.

The three-story, 150,000 square-foot facility will house the Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Physics departments as well as the Ric and Jean Edelman planetarium, which is named for the Rowan alumni who donated $1 million toward the completion of the project. In conjunction with the planetarium, a 16-inch telescope located on the facility?s rooftop observation deck will feed live celestial images to the planetarium?s screen as well as to an Internet site.

Science Hall includes a fully equipped laser laboratory as well as state-of-the-art laboratories for the study of materials, biochemistry, mycology, botany, environmental biology and other disciplines. The roof supports a greenhouse for use by undergraduate and graduate students in environmental studies programs.

The building and new equipment will be used by undergraduates and graduates alike to conduct research in the areas of materials, biochemistry, mycology, botany, environmental biology, astronomy and other disciplines.
