Rowan University?s Board of Trustees appointed its newest member ? Juanita Johnson-Clark of Lawnside ? at its April 30 meeting.

?We are delighted to have Juanita Johnson-Clark on our Board of Trustees,? said Dr. Donald Farish, president of the University. ?She has demonstrated her commitment to South Jersey through various political, professional and volunteer positions; and we are certain she will be instrumental in enabling Rowan to further its efforts to best serve our students and our region.?

A 1976 law and justice graduate of Rowan University, Johnson-Clark has served as councilwoman for the Borough of Lawnside for the past 18 years. Her other community service activities include the United Way and the American Cancer Society. She also helped establish the Camden County Chapters of the Million Mom March and the Parent-to-Parent Coalition.

Johnson-Clark?s work experience includes serving as the director of the Camden County Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse under the Department of Health and Human Services. She worked in that area of county government for 25 years. During her tenure, she was a member of many task forces and organizations, including the County Youth Services Commission, Cultural Diversity Task Force, New Jersey Association for County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors and the Women?s Task Force on Alcohol and Drug Abuse for the county.

Johnson-Clark has received many awards in recognition of her work. In September 2002, she was recognized with an award from the Camden County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse for her achievements and contributions to the field. She also received the YMCA?s Tribute to Women and Industry award in May 2002. Johnson-Clark?s other awards include the New Jersey Legislature for Women of Achievement award during Women?s History Month and the Maryville Rehabilitation Center?s Founder?s Day Award.
