State Senator John Matheussen will present a joint legislative resolution honoring Rowan Radio, 89.7 WGLS-FM, station general manager Frank Hogan, Radio/TV/Film Department chair Ned Eckhardt and RTF students on Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at 5 p.m. at WGLS (Bozorth Hall).

The resolution honors the faculty, staff and students for their recent awards in the national College Broadcasters, Inc. competition. This presentation will take place live on the air during the state senator?s monthly appearance on ?The Rowan Report.?

In the radio division, WGLS-FM won first place in the category Best Sports Play by Play. The winning entry consisted of highlights of the 2001 NCAA Division III Football Tournament National Semifinal Game, featuring the Rowan University Profs vs. the Bridgewater College Eagles that aired December 8, 2001. Student broadcasters John Sadak, of Brick; Mark Kasubinski, of Monroe Township; and Derek Jones, of Somerdale announced the controversial game from Salem, VA, in which it was later revealed that a clock malfunction with one second left allowed Bridgewater to win the game and deprive Rowan from advancing to the national championship game.

In the television division, the TV documentary class production Ecstasy and Electronica won first place in the Best Feature Broadcast category. The documentary was created to awaken perceptions of party drug use and the rave scene and to generate dialogue on party drug abuse. The documentary was made in Radio/TV/Film Professor Eckhardt?s documentary production class during the spring of 2002. The production crew consisted of producers Kathleen Berger, an exchange student from Osnabrueck University in Germany, and Erin Plyler of Vineland; director Susan Minnick, of Hamilton Square; videographers Christopher Robinette, of Harrison Township, Lauren Ackermann, of Brick, and Simone Viere, an exchange student from Osnabrueck University in Germany; and editor Christopher Mueller, of Marlton.

Rowan University was one of only two universities in the nation to win a first place in both radio and TV categories.
