Students enrolled in the Salem County Arts, Science, and Technology High School?s Chemical Engineering and Technology Academy hosted at Penns Grove High School who successfully graduate from the program will automatically land a seat in the Rowan University Engineering program.

Representatives from the Salem County Arts, Science, and Technology High School and Rowan University will officially sign the articulation agreement outlining that provision on Friday, November 22 at 3:30 p.m. at Rowan Hall in the engineering building.

?A formal articulation between the Academy of Chemical Engineering and Technology at Penns Grove High School and the Rowan University College of Engineering affords Salem County students interested in careers in engineering with increased opportunities for academic success,? said Rowan?s provost, Dr. Helen Giles-Gee. ?This partnership demonstrates the effectiveness of solid collaborative work among teachers/faculty and administrators from two institutions with a single goal: to benefit students.?

Students in the Academy of Chemical Engineering and Technology, hosted at Penns Grove High School, need to graduate from the academy program, earn at least 1200 on their SATs, maintain a minimum 89 grade point average, and graduate in at least the top 20 percent of their class to qualify.

?When we first began the Academy of Chemical Engineering and Technology at the Arts, Science, and Technology High School we knew that partnerships like these were important to the growth and betterment of this academy program,? said Dr. William H. Adams, superintendent of the Salem County Vocational Technical Schools. ?We are very pleased that Rowan University is providing this opportunity for our students.?

The Academy of Chemical Engineering and Technology opened in 1998 with three full-time students. Since then the program has grown and developed partnerships with Rowan University as well as area corporations.

?This day begins a collaborative venture that benefits our students to be successful in the School of Engineering at Rowan University,? said Joe Massare, assistant superintendent for the Penns Grove-Carneys Point Regional School District. ?This articulation enhances the Chemical Engineering Program hosted at Penns Grove High School by the input and guidance of the administration and faculty at Rowan University. It is definitely a win-win event for the community of Salem County.<+>
