GLASSBORO, NJ - Rowan University football player Scott Lipford has signed a free agent contract with the San Franciso 49ers. The signing was announced by the 49ers on April 25.

A wide receiver, Lipford (sr. Ocean City/Egg Harbor Twp., NJ) played for four years at the University. He finished his career with 142 catches in 35 regular season games for 2,647 yards and 27 touchdowns. Last season, he compiled 969 yards with 47 receptions. He also averaged 16.3 yards on punt returns and 27.4 yards on kickoffs.

Lipford broke the school record for touchdowns receiving (five) and yards (232) in a game against Montclair State. His 969 yards in a season broke the school mark he set his junior year with 842. He averaged 107.7 receiving yards per game which was first in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Lipford also led the conference in all-purpose yards with 167.6 yard per game.

He was named the Brooks Irvine College Player of the Year and selected to the NJAC All-Conference Offense and Special Teams first team. Lipford was also selected to the Football Gazette All-East Region first team, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southeast Region All-Star first team and the Hewlett Packard All-America third team.

His junior year, Lipford led the team with 842 yards on 54 receptions (15.6 avg.) and five touchdowns. He was chosen to the All-Conference first team and received ECAC honorable mention. He totaled 702 receiving yards his sophomore season with 36 catches and had four touchdowns. Lipford was an All-Conference first team selection. He is a law and justice studies major at the University.

During his career, the football team posted a 41-7 record and advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament three times. In 1999, Rowan made its fifth appearance in the national championship game, the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.
