Transportation Expert to Discuss ?Making Turtles Fly? at Rowan

Peter McHugh, FAA Small Aircraft Transportation System Manager, will discuss ?Making Turtles Fly? at the second presentation in the Henry M. Rowan Speakers Series on Thursday, April 18, at 11 a.m. in Rowan Hall at Rowan University.
McHugh, who is based at Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA, is a veteran of more than 35 years in the transportation and aviation industries. He was a Master Army Aviator with commercial single- and multi-engine land and single engine seaplane, rotorcraft and instrument ratings and a credentialed FAA Air Traffic Evaluator and Safety Investigator with experience in aircraft accident investigation. McHugh was vice president of policy for the nation's largest aviation membership organization, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and later represented the United States as alternate member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Air Navigation Commission. ICAO is the organization responsible for securing international co-operation and uniformity in regulations, standards and procedures in civil aviation matters. Prior to his present position, he was a division manager in the FAA Office of System Safety in Washington, DC, for more than 10 years.
McHugh holds a master's degree in systems management with a concentration in human factors from the University of Southern California and has completed additional advanced work in human factors engineering at the University of Michigan.
In <+>Making Turtles Fly,<+> McHugh will discuss perspectives on vision as a motivation for research, the difficulty of bringing new ideas to maturity and the research and engineering challenges provoked by the nation?s current transportation crisis. He will suggest some emerging transportation alternatives.
