Award-Winning Author Hanif Kureishi to Appear at Rowan University

Author and playwright Hanif Kureishi will present clips of his work
and discuss screen and playwriting at Rowan University on Thursday, November 9 at 1 p.m.
Kureishi?s appearance is part of the Talking Pictures series sponsored by the Charles and
Lucille King Family Foundation, Rowan University and the College of Communication. The
presentation, which is open to the public, will be held in Bozorth Auditorium in Bozorth
Hall.
Kureishi is an Anglo-Pakistani author who has written numerous plays for the London stage.
He was also a writer-in-residence for London?s Royal Court Theatre. In 1985, he wrote the
screenplay for the film, My Beautiful Laundrettte, for which he won the New York Critics?
Best Screenplay award and was nominated for an Oscar. His published works include The
Black Album, Sleep with Me and Love in a Blue Time. He has won the Drama
Magazine?s Most Promising Playwright award and the Thames Television Writing Award.
The presentation will include a question-and-answer session moderated by
Radio/Television/Film Professors Mike Donovan and Ken Kaleta. Kaleta is the author of
Hanif Kureishi: Postcolonial Storyteller, the first critical biography of Kureishi.
