Rowan University has named Donald Moore, of Jackson, N.J., as vice president of Facilities and Operations.

Most recently associate vice president for Operations at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in Pomona, Moore will replace Michael Harris, who has accepted a position in Philadelphia.

At Stockton, Moore was responsible for navigating the school through the implementation of its $1.4 billion master plan and the largest building campaign in its history while simultaneously overseeing plant operations and procurement activities.

“We are pleased to have someone with Donald’s track record join our administration,” said Dr. Ali Houshmand, interim president of Rowan University. “This is an important time in the development of our University, and Donald brings a vast range of expertise that will help steer us into the future.”

Moore earned a B.S. in construction, with a focus on real estate development and business management, from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., and an M.B.A. from Stockton.

Most of his career has focused on public projects, working either in the private sector for a general contractor, construction manager or energy services developer, or in the public sector managing a state-wide portfolio of school construction in some of the New Jersey's most impoverished communities.

Moore, who has close to three decades of experience in construction and development, started his career with Clark Construction Group in Bethesda, Md., as a project manager. Later, he worked as operations manager for Thacker Engineering, Inc., in New York City; vice president and director of planning and construction of Onsite SYCOM Energy Services/TRC Engineering, in Somerset, N.J.: and managing director for design and construction for the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and subsidiary New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation, for which he successfully implemented approximately $3.5 billion in school construction in cities throughout New Jersey. He also served as senior vice president of The LiRo Group, Construction Management, Architecture, and Engineering Corp., based in New York City, and as a consultant prior to joining the Stockton staff.

He is a member of the Society for College and University Planners and the Association of Physical Plant Administrators, among other professional organizations. Moore has extensive community development experience, including serving as a volunteer leader for an organization performing housing redevelopment in the City of Plainfield, N.J., and as a "Big Brother" in Ocean County.

“I am proud to have been selected for this significant leadership position, in particular at this point in Rowan's history where it is poised to be one of the most progressive institutions of higher education in the State of New Jersey,” Moore said. “I welcome the challenge and opportunity in collaborating with a very energetic, forward-thinking and decisive President Houshmand, as well as his cabinet members, Board of Trustees, the local community and a strong team of facilities and plant professionals. Being positioned to effect positive community change by way of my work effort is at the core of what drives me and has been a pivotal basis for my decision to join the Rowan family.”

He will start his Rowan position on June 25.
