Limited seats still are available in summer programs for middle school students interested in learning the fundamentals of engineering at Rowan University.

The Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering will host girls entering seventh, eighth and ninth grades for Attracting Women into Engineering (AWE), now in its 20th year, on Tuesday, July 23, or Wednesday, July 24. The workshops will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Rowan also offers sessions for boys entering seventh and eighth grades, the Boys’ Engineering, Science & Technology (BEST) program, held on Tuesday, July 16, and Wednesday, July 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants will work with and learn from Rowan engineering students during workshops that focus on hands-on engineering laboratory experiments, team building with like-minded students, communication and networking with current engineering students as well as a tour of the engineering buildings’ labs and facilities. Participants will explore engineering fundamentals while enjoying such projects as making concrete canoes and building and launching water bottle rockets.

AWE, sponsored by PSEG Nuclear LLC, and BEST will be held in the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering, off Bowe Boulevard in Glassboro. The cost is $50 per session and includes a pizza lunch.
