Glassboro–Dow Chemical has selected Rowan University chemical engineering Associate Professor Stephanie Farrell, of Philadelphia, to receive the 2000 Dow Outstanding Young Faculty Award. Farrell will be honored for her accomplishments at the American Society for Engineer Education’s annual conference in St. Louis on June 21.

<+>Dr. Farrell is one of our most dynamic, enthusiastic and exciting young faculty members,<+> said Dr. James H. Tracey, dean of the Rowan University College of Engineering. <+>She totally immerses herself in student clinic projects and is an advocate for on-site visits so students can see the practical application of their studies,<+>

At Rowan University, Farrell teaches chemical engineering as well as helps coordinate the freshman and junior clinic courses. Her research interests include drug delivery and controlled release, novel membrane separations and phytoremediation.

<+>The Dow Award is the most prestigious award given to a new engineering faculty member,<+> said C. Stewart Slater, Chemical Engineering department chair, Rowan University.

<+>Dr. Farrell has demonstrated an enthusiasm for engineering education and has contributed to the improvement of engineering education not only at Rowan, but nationally through invited papers and panels. She has innovated the curriculum by integrating novel bioengineering experiments and demonstrations from freshman though graduate level.<+>

The Dow Outstanding New Faculty Award is bestowed annually upon engineering educators of outstanding ability who have recently entered the profession of engineering education. The award will be presented to eight faculty this year.
