CHAMP is designed to help students from Camden develop the skills they will need to be accepted for and succeed in post-secondary education. Begun as a pre-college academic program out of the university’s Camden campus in the summer of 1988, CHAMP provides year-round academic and personal support for an average of 200 youth, including a summer program in the Pine Barrens.

GEAR UP is an initiative to encourage more young people to set high expectations, stay in school, study and take the appropriate courses to prepare for college. GEAR UP is modeled in part after President Clinton’s High Hopes for College proposal to establish a national goal that all colleges should partner with at least one middle school in a low-income community to help raise expectations and prepare students for college.
