Glassboro - The New Jersey Press Association's 1999 Better College
Newspaper Contest for four-year colleges recently honored The Whit,
Rowan University?s student newspaper, with two first place and one
second place award.

Peter McCarthy, a junior and The Whit's news editor, won first place in
the news writing category for his articles <+>No Tolerance Policy
Challenged<+> and <+>Drug Raids Result in Arrests.<+>

Brenna Egan, a junior and The Whit's copy editor, won first place in the
opinion writing category for her articles <+>Power of Support Can Make the
Difference<+> and <+>Rowan?s Handling of Floyd Irks Commuters.<+>

Sue Erbeck, a senior and The Whit's features editor, won second place
in the feature writing category for her articles <+>Alumnus,
Assemblyman, & Future Governor?<+> and <+>Newsroom Gets Hit By Mac
Attack.<+>

The state's newspaper editors will present the awards on April 13 at
the spring conference of the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association in
South Brunswick.
