Glassboro- The New Jersey Section of the American Society of Civil
Engineers has selected Mullica Hill resident Dr. Ralph Alan Dusseau as its
engineering <+>Educator of the Year.<+> This is the ninth award Dusseau has
received for excellence in teaching in his 15-year career.

<+>This is my first teaching award since coming to Rowan University in 1995
and it comes only weeks before we graduate our first senior class,<+> said
Dusseau, the founding chair of Rowan University's Department of Civil and
Environmental Engineering. <+>Thus, the award means a great deal to me
personally. It is also a tribute to all of the engineering faculty at Rowan
University.<+>

An expert on bridges, Dusseau recently negotiated a $1 million contract
with the Delaware River Port Authority to have professors and students
study the Betsy Ross, Ben Franklin and Walt Whitman bridges. The work
will give students opportunities to solve <+>real-world problems,<+> not just
<+>theoretical problems.<+> He hopes that the agreement will lead to a
long-term partnership that generates more internships and employment
opportunities for students.

Dusseau will be honored by the Society at its annual dinner on May 5.
