Glassboro--The Rowan University Board of Trustees recently acted upon a recommendation from New Jersey Gov. Christie Whitman, appointing Dr. Frances Colon Gibson of Medford, N.J., to the board.
Glassboro--The Rowan University Board of Trustees recently acted upon a recommendation from New
Jersey Gov. Christie Whitman, appointing Dr. Frances Colon Gibson of Medford, N.J., to the board.
Gibson started her six-year term after an installation ceremony held at Rowan's Camden campus on Feb. 17.

Gibson is the superintendent of the Magnolia Public School District in Magnolia, Camden County, where
she has worked since 1993. The first female Hispanic superintendent in the New Jersey public school
system, Gibson has also served as principal at two Camden schools and taught bilingual education.

Gibson was certified as a principal/supervisor in 1977 and a chief school administrator in 1991. She received
her bachelor's degree from Rowan University, her master's from The College of New Jersey, and her Ed.D.
from Temple University. Gibson is a member of the National and New Jersey branch of the Association of
School Administrators.

Active on many local boards, Gibson is the Chapter Secretary of the Camden County American Red Cross.
She is on the board of the Walt Whitman Center for the Arts and a founding member of the League of United
Latin American Citizens.
