Rowan Univ. may play host to gubernatorial debate

By BETH AUERSWALD Trenton Bureau

GLASSBORO -- Although rejected once already as a host for an official gubernatorial debate this year, Rowan University may still play host to some sort of dialogue between the candidates come October.

While two possible dates are being considered for the Glassboro location by the two major-party candidates, Republican Bret Schundler and Democrat Jim McGreevey, nothing has yet been confirmed, representatives of a number of the events' partners said Monday.

Still, Schundler, the former mayor of Jersey City, and McGreevey, mayor of Woodbridge, could make the trip to Gloucester County at the height of their campaigns for either a debate -- proposed by the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce and the Courier Post for Oct. 18 -- or an informal ''town hall'' meeting, a dialogue being planned by the Southern New Jersey Development Council and the New Jersey Network for Oct. 23.
