Officials Attempt to Draw Students to Local Businesses

Glassboro - Hoping to draw more Rowan University students to local businesses, Glassboro officials are trying to secure funding for a new road that would connect the downtown area with the school's campus.

The road to be known as Rowan Boulevard, would run from Mullica Hill Road to Main Street, just south of New Street. It would be part of an overall plan to reinvigorate the borough's struggling downtown area.

Borough officials said that the town will ask the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority for a grant -- most likely between $50,000 and $100,000 -- to build the road.

The agency has expressed interest in the project, the officials said, but it has not formally committed to providing the money for the road.
