This portrait concert features a selection of chamber music works written by prolific Brazilian composer Luiz Gonçalves. Hailing from the state of Goiás - in the heart of Brazil, Mr. Gonçalves’s work draws inspiration from various musical traditions, including the classical north-American minimalism and experimentalism to traditional musics of Asia and south-America. These influences combine into his unique musical style marked by the alternance of pulse and diatonic melodies with space and introspective tones. The program this evening features performances of Rowan University Faculty and students, and is curated by Dr. Fabio Oliveira.

About the Artist
Luiz Gonçalves is a Brazilian composer born in 1986. His music tends to be simple and clear, with echoes from different ethnic traditions. Since 2017 he is a co-artistic director and member of the project Música Íntima, a series of experimental music concerts in the city of Goiânia – Brazil, that continues to present the music of our time to a large audience. Mr. Gonçalves studies and teaches musical composition with high hopes for a utopian society that dedicates more time to silence and the contemplation of nature.
