NEWSWORKS, by Carolyn Beeler -- Students arrived at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in downtown Camden Monday for the first day of orientation at the brand-new medical school.
When Rowan University’s assistant director for sport clubs, Gary Baker, first spoke with Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) officials earlier this year, he hoped for some student interest in their proposed joint sports league. Little did he know how popular this idea would become.
On June 17, Rowan University will mark the 20th anniversary of the transformational $100 million gift that Burlington County businessman and philanthropist Henry Rowan and his late wife, Betty, pledged in 1992 to then-Glassboro State College (GSC).
More than 1,300 freshmen and their families are getting an up-close-and-personal introduction to Rowan during the University's annual orientation. They're being aided by close to 40 Rowan students who are members of the PROS (Peer Referral Orientation Specialists).
