The Rowan University College of Science and Mathematics will host the next segment in the Dean’s Distinguished Speaker series on April 11, from 1:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Boyd Recital Hall, Wilson Hall. The speaker, Dr. Chris Rorres, will discuss the quest for the “Theory of Everything,” which the ancient Greek physicist, mathematician, engineer, inventor and astronomer Archimedes embarked on 23 centuries ago.

Rorres, Drexel University professor emeritus of mathematics and University of Pennsylvania lecturer in epidemiology, touch on the limitations scientists and mathematicians face today in their quest for the theory.

 

The Rowan University Mathematics Department will host the spring 2014 New Jersey Sectional Meeting of The Mathematical Association of America on Saturday, April 5, 2014, in conjunction with the 11th Garden State Undergraduate Mathematics Conference.  Participants will compete in an undergraduate mathematics competition as well as  conduct a poster session and give talks.  The event features three nationally acclaimed distinguished speakers:


 
 

Rowan University will host Science Day, an event for aspiring high school scientists, on April 4, at 9 a.m. in Science Hall. More than 120 high school students from six local high schools — Kingsway, Deptford, Bridgeton, Woodbury, Buena Regional, and Millville Senior High School — are expected to attend this year. The event features time for students to meet with professors from varying areas of study, including computer science, physics, biological sciences, chemistry/biochemistry and math.

The Rowan University Foundation, the philanthropic and fundraising arm of Rowan University, committed to allocate $5 million to a new venture capital fund to fuel new research initiatives by faculty, students and alumni.
