The man who was the catalyst for the transformation of Rowan University, the benefactor whose $100-million gift to then-Glassboro State College in 1992 startled the philanthropic community and changed education in South Jersey, entrepreneur and business leader Henry M. Rowan died on Dec. 9. He was 92 years old.
Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine receives $973,000 grant for early intervention of substance abuse

The Department of Family Medicine at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine has entered into a two-year $973,000 agreement with the New Jersey Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health Addiction Services (DMHAS) to provide early intervention and treatment services for individuals who have, or are at risk for, substance abuse disorders. The agreement adds five South Jersey sites to an ongoing five-year program at DMHAS made possible by a grant from the federal government’s Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

The Minions – the pint sized, spirited yellow helpers from Disney’s “Despicable Me” – will take over the third floor of James Hall as Rowan University’s Kappa Delta Pi, the education honor society, hosts its 6th annual pajama party on Friday, Dec. 4.

Rowan University will offer a three-year, year-round degree pathway for students beginning in Fall 2016. The program is designed to allow students to earn free summer tuition, fees and housing if they have met their academic requirements in the previous fall and spring semesters. It also provides students with on-campus leadership internships and/or research opportunities, and academic support programs throughout students’ three years.

A panel of distinguished judges last week wrapped up the latest phase of the AT&T Civic App Challenge-New Jersey by judging the finalists for the two-month virtual hackathon that AT&T launched in September with the NJ Tech Council and several other organizations across the Garden State. The challenge offered New Jersey’s coders, students, artists, thinkers, makers and entrepreneurs the chance to develop mobile applications that meet a community need. As part of this challenge, special consideration was given to apps that help military veterans and their families.
