Associate Professor Maria Simone, and her husband, John Jenkins, of Absecon, will compete in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, Oct. 11. Simone is using the race as a platform to raise money for pancreatic cancer research in tribute to her mother, who died from the disease in 2012.

Despite decreasing enrollment numbers in colleges nationwide, South Jersey's state colleges are seeing record highs this year with the largest freshmen classes to date. Both the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and Rowan University have seen huge increases in overall attendance, with Rowan's total enrollment reaching more than 15,000 students and Stockton totaling more than 8,000 students.

Amid a slew of administrative actions Wednesday, Rowan University's board of trustees granted the dean of its engineering school a number of requests that will keep him busy this year: a new doctoral program, an undergraduate major in engineering entrepreneurship, an undergraduate minor in civil engineering, and the renovation of its Rowan Hall engineering building.
