Registration is now being accepted for the sixth annual Miles for Medals 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run to benefit Special Olympics on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 10:30 a.m.-noon outside of the Rowan Rec Center.

In addition to the 5K, the fun run will be an enjoyable course that serves as an additional opportunity to ensure that all those who would like to support the Special Olympics can do so, without having to run a 5K.

The event is open for the public. Registration is $15 for students, $20 for non-students. Registration will be accepted through Saturday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m. To register, visit the main office of the Rowan Rec Center, North Campus Drive, Glassboro.

According to the Special Olympics website, 4.7 million athletes are currently enrolled in the program. The run will raise money to promote the success of the organization, which has a positive impact on so many lives through the joy of sports. A sport club, Rowan’s popular Unified Sports program offers  Special Olympics athletes and Rowan students (known as partners) the opportunity to play together on competitive teams. The program promotes inclusion while fostering friendships and providing a competitive team experience for athletes and partners alike.

The event is co-coordinated by the Rowan Intramural Recreation Sports Association and the REC Center and is being sponsored by Unified Sports, fitDegree, and Fitness Fuels.
