Baseball, softball #1 in NJAC; men’s, women’s track & field take #2


In a great weekend for Rowan sports May 3-4, the baseball and softball teams locked up their New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship tournaments and the men’s and women’s track and field teams both finished second in the NJAC.

With a 7-5 victory over Montclair State University on Sunday, the baseball team took its second straight NJAC tournament. The team defeated The College of New Jersey, 7-6, in the first round Apr. 29 and Kean University, 8-2, in the second round May 2. In the third round, the Profs eliminated Rutgers-Camden with an 8-3 victory May 3.
Rowan hosts York College May 8 and faces Moravian College in an away game May 9 to complete the regular season.

The second-seeded Profs (32-8) claimed their 16th NJAC title and won an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

Also Sunday, Rowan softball defeated Kean University 7-0 to win their NJAC tournament at William Paterson University.

The team (34-10) claimed its eighth NJAC title and also receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. It heads to Ithaca, N.Y. for the NCAA Division III Regional May 9-11 where the Profs (34-10) will face SUNY Oneonta (29-9) in the first round at 1 p.m. Friday.

In track, the men’s and women's outdoor teams both finished second on Sunday following a two-day conference at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ).
