U.S. News & World Report has ranked Rowan University 18th (tied) among Best Regional Universities in its North category and third among public universities in the same region.

In the last five years, Rowan has jumped 10 places in the Best Regional Universities—North category, which includes universities that primarily provide comprehensive undergraduate and master’s programs. Last year, the University placed 19th.

Rowan’s College of Engineering ranked 33rd (tied) among all colleges and universities whose engineering programs offer a bachelor’s or master’s degree as their highest degree. Rowan Engineering ranked 12th in the nation in that category among public schools.

U.S. News & World Report includes 182 colleges and universities in the North category, with institutions from Maine through Maryland.

“In what has been an incredible year for Rowan University – being named the state’s second public comprehensive research university and gaining a second medical school – the U.S. News & World Report rankings are still accolades of great value,” said Dr. Ali Houshmand, president. “While students and parents should consider more than just rankings in their college search, we are, as always, very pleased to be included among the top institutions in the North.”

Institutional rankings are based on measures of quality that include peer assessment, retention and graduation of students, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving and other categories.

The 2014 edition of the Best Colleges guidebook will hit newsstands on Sept. 24. Rankings can be found at http://www.usnews.com.
