The robots are coming: Middle school students will compete in Rowan's FIRST LEGO League competition

Rowan University will host the Sixth Annual FIRST LEGO League Competition on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chamberlain Student Center, Rowan University. More than 100 middle school students from Clayton, Gloucester Township, Greenwich Township, Logan Township, Pedricktown, Toms River, Washington Township, Williamstown and Woolwich Township in New Jersey and West Vincent Township in Pennsylvania will build LEGO-based robots to tackle real engineering challenges.

Sponsored by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), the event teaches critical thinking, presentation and math and science skills.

Co-chaired by Dr. Jennifer Kay, Computer Science Department, and Dr. Hong Zhang, Mechanical Engineering, the event allows students to explore engineering and technology and consider studying and pursuing careers in those fields.
