The Edelman Planetarium at Rowan University will host the traditional holiday show “Season of Light” Dec. 3 to Dec. 18 on Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. in Science Hall off Rt. 322 on the Glassboro campus.

A brand-new version of the program takes advantage of the colorful, animated visuals possible with the planetarium’s new SciDome digital projection system. “Season” recounts the many ways humans have found to light up the dark winter, including Christmas tree lights, the Yule log, the Hanukkah menorah and luminaries of the American Southwest. The show also looks at the brightest lights of the winter sky and explores why there is a cold season at all. Finally, the program explores the possible astronomical explanations for the “Star of Bethlehem.”

Admission fees are $5 for adults, $3 for children 12 and younger, $3 for seniors older than 60 and $3 for Rowan students. Tickets go on sale half an hour before show time; advance reservations are not available.

“Season of Light” is enjoyable for those 10 years of age and older and is watchable by those six years of age and older. The planetarium does not encourage attendance at public shows by pre-schoolers.

More information is available at the planetarium website, www.rowan.edu/planetarium.
