Cooper dean presents during Rowan engineering series

Dr. Jocelyn Mitchell-Williams, associate dean for Multicultural & Community Affairs for Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU), will present on “Diversity in Medicine and Engineering: The Need for Continuing Initiatives” as part of the Henry M. Rowan Speaker Series on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 1:45 p.m. in the Rowan Hall auditorium off Bowe Boulevard, Glassboro.

Dr. Jocelyn Mitchell-Williams, associate dean for Multicultural & Community Affairs for Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU), will present on “Diversity in Medicine and Engineering: The Need for Continuing Initiatives” as part of the Henry M. Rowan Speaker Series on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 1:45 p.m. in the Rowan Hall auditorium off Bowe Boulevard, Glassboro.

Mitchell-Williams will address concerns about the lack of diversity in the medical and technical fields, for which future shortages are projected. The presentation will cover promising initiatives and best practices for expanding diversity within these fields and will also include the speaker's strategies to improve health care outreach and create pipelines to facilitate better access to health care in disadvantaged communities. She also will highlight efforts by CMSRU in Camden, which will open the doors to its first class of students in fall 2012.  
 
Mitchell-Williams has more than 25 years of experience developing programs for underrepresented and financially disadvantaged students in the fields of engineering, science and medicine. She holds a B.S. in electrical engineering and a  Ph.D. in biomedical engineering. She earned her medical degree from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where she served as an instructor in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology.  

The Henry M. Rowan Speaker Series is sponsored by the Dean’s Advisory Council of the College of Engineering at Rowan University. Speakers from industry, government organizations and academia offer insights that expand classroom experiences.
