Themed, “Building Our Foundation,” the second Glassboro State College/Rowan University Black Alumni, Family & Friends Reunion will take place Saturday, July 16, to Sunday, July 17, on the campus of Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J.

Last year, more than 350 alumni and friends, spanning 40 years of graduating classes, gathered to reminisce and reconnect at the first-ever reunion of black alumni, some of them returning to campus for the first time in years.

“As a result of the overwhelming response in 2010, we’ve expanded this year’s reunion from just one day to a weekend full of fun activities for both alumni and their families to enjoy,” stated Melanie Burney, class of ’84 and a member of the organizing committee.

Co-sponsored and organized by the Rowan University Alumni Association and alumni from several Glassboro State College/Rowan University classes, the reunion is an opportunity for black alumni to rekindle old friendships and become actively engaged with the University community.

The 2011 reunion starts Saturday featuring an all-day indoor/outdoor picnic-style get-together with special guest DJ Gregg “GForce” Evans spinning old school hits all afternoon in the Student Center pit. Additional campus activities include a planetarium show, access to the Rowan Recreation Center swimming pool, games and lots of time to reunite and catch up with long-lost friends. The weekend culminates with a Sunday morning prayer breakfast where attendees can continue to fellowship.

Pre-registration is required to attend. Admission for the Saturday picnic is $30 for adults and $15 for children ages 3-12. The cost for the prayer breakfast is $20 for adults and $12 for children.  No on-site registration will be available. Reunion t-shirts are available for $15 to $18 each. Visit  www.alumni.rowan.edu for more information.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the William H. Myers Scholarship Endowment Fund, which provides financial support for high-achieving minority students at Rowan University. Myers, a former assistant dean of students, passed away in 2003. He served the University for more than 25 years as an administrator and mentored many campus groups and students.
