A 1974 alumnus of Rowan's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Harris is an award-winning producer, director, promoter, actor and entrepreneur. In 1980, he founded L. Arnold Productions. Four years later, he staged and toured "When the Child Cries" for the first time.
In July, the National Association of Colored Women's Clubs Inc. asked Harris to do a national tour of "When the Child Cries" as a fundraiser to benefit its scholarship fund. The tour will include stops at Atlanta's Fox Theatre and Chicago's Ford Center for the Performing Arts, according to Harris, who earned his sociology degree from Rowan.
A spiritual production, "When the Child Cries" includes performances by Harris, of Glassboro, who plays Hucklebuck; Kim Spencer of Sicklerville, who plays Sophie, the mother; Derrick Dolphin of Marlton, who plays the bartender; Rev. James C. Jones of Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Camden, who plays Rev. Jacobs; and Mikayla Garnett, 11, of Chesilhurst, who plays Nikki, the child in the production.
