Rowan University will host “Galilean Night: Rowan Observatory Open House” on Friday, October 23, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. in Science Hall.

Rowan University will host “Galilean Night: Rowan Observatory Open House” on Friday, October 23, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. in Science Hall.

The Rowan Astronomical Observatory event is part of the series of activities recognizing 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy and is part of the Galilean Nights celebration. The evening will commemorate the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s telescopic observations.

Visitors will be able to view Jupiter and its largest moons as Galileo did 400 years ago and enjoy a brief show in the Edelman Planetarium highlighting the nighttime sky and the discoveries of Galileo (7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.)

A suite of telescopes will be available to view celestial objects such as stars, nebulae, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune and the Moon.  This free event is open to the public.
