Rowan freshmen move in August 29; University plans weekend of activities to introduce them to campus life
Close to 1,300 Rowan University freshmen are expected to move into their new homes on the Glassboro campus on Saturday, August 29, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in these residence halls: Chestnut, Evergreen, Magnolia, Mimosa, Mullica and Willow.
As in years past, the campus community — upperclassmen and administrators, faculty and staff alike — will welcome them to campus in part by assisting them and their family and friends with the late summer move-in ritual. President Dr. Donald Farish will be among those assisting; he will be in the vicinity of Evergreen.
That’s just the start of opening activities for freshmen. Among other highlights of “RU Ready to Grow: Welcome Weekend 2009” are:
Saturday, August 29
• Caribbean buffet, Student Center Marketplace, Noon to 4 p.m.
• Midnight breakfast, Student Center Marketplace, Midnight to 2 a.m.
Sunday, August 30
• Convocation, Rec Center, 5 p.m.
This is the official welcoming of the freshman class, and it will be followed by a reception in the Marketplace. Convocation speaker is Camden native Donavan McCargo, a Woodrow Wilson High School (1999), Rowan University (2003) and Iowa State University (2005) alumnus. McCargo is director of Student Services and the Educational Opportunity Fund program at Rowan’s Camden campus. He currently is pursuing a doctorate of educational leadership at Rowan University.
