Close to 3,000 Rowan students to participate in May commencement ceremonies

At Rowan University, Glassboro, 2,503 undergraduate students and 372 graduate students will take part in commencement ceremonies to be held in May.

At Rowan University, Glassboro, 2,503 undergraduate students and 372 graduate students will take part in commencement ceremonies to be held in May.

The main undergraduate ceremony will be held on Friday, May 15, at 10 a.m., on the Green in front of Bunce Hall off Whitney Avenue. Ceremonies for students in the University’s academic colleges will be held throughout campus following the main ceremony.

The undergraduate commencement speaker will be David Girgenti, of Cherry Hill, a 1993 graduate of Rowan and founder of the internationally recognized Wish Upon A Hero, an online community where visitors post wishes that others help fulfill.

At the undergraduate ceremony, the University also will present an honorary degree to world-renowned opera singer Barbara Dever, of Pitman, and its distinguished alumnus award to Patricia Assip Allen, of Freehold.

Dever is acclaimed as one of the top dramatic mezzo-sopranos in the world, and she has performed for the last 17 seasons at New York City’s Metropolitan Opera. Her career includes performing in 27 countries as well as with orchestras throughout the world.

Allen has worked for the American Cancer Society for more than two decades, assisting New Jersey cancer patients and their families.  A 1983 graduate of Rowan, she currently serves as senior director of patient navigation for New Jersey, building collaborations with health care systems and employers, overseeing the patient service center and managing signature programs such as Look Good...Feel Better.

The graduate ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 14, at 4:30 p.m. at John Page Field, the athletic stadium at the corner of Carpenter Street and Bowe Boulevard.

The graduate ceremony commencement speaker will be Barbara Armand, of Mt. Laurel, an award-winning businesswoman, president and CEO of Cherry Hill-based Armand Corporation, and a member of Rowan’s Board of Trustees as well as other organizations.

Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM will broadcast the undergraduate ceremony live.
