throughout the state are participating in the Fourth Annual Summer Institute in Materials Science at Rowan University.

Thursday, June 23

10 a.m. -- 2 p.m. Field Trip to Sony, Pitman

2 -- 4 p.m. Experiments, Rowan Hall ? 1st Floor Machine Shop

8 p.m. Movie Night in the Planetarium, Science Hall

1 ? 4 p.m. Experiments, Bottle Rockets, Rowan Hall 1st Floor Machine Shop

➢ Students will make rockets out of soda bottles and compete to see who can launch his or her bottle the furthest.

Rowan University?s College of Engineering, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Department of Physics and Astronomy are sponsoring the Institute, which provides students and teachers with the opportunity to explore how science, engineering and new materials are helping to shape the future. Participants are discovering the micro-universe, making and breaking composite materials, creating a hologram using laser technology, and learning about job opportunities in the high-tech field of materials science.

The program is funded by Rowan University and the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education through a High Technology Workforce Excellence Grant.

The Institute will culminate with an open house, lab tours, dinner, poster presentations and awards ceremony for participants, parents and faculty on Thursday, June 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Science Hall.
