Children?s Artwork Chronicles Death and Destruction of War

On Thursday, May 19, Rowan University will host the Darfur Children?s Exhibit, a collection of drawings by school-aged children from Darfur, Sudan, telling the tragic story of the recent violence in the western Sudan, Africa.

The exhibit will be on display from 2:30-4:30pm in Room 126 of Rowan?s Keith & Shirley Campbell Library. At 3:30, Mohamed Ibrahim, a field worker for the American Friends Service Committee and a Sudanese immigrant, will make a short presentation.

With colorful crayons and drawing pencils, the powerful images of the Darfur Children?s Exhibit detail the attacks on villages, killing of civilians, rape, pillaging and forced displacement experienced by Darfur residents during the last few years. The British Parliament recently estimated that the violence might have claimed as many as 300,000 lives.

For more information on the May 19 display and presentation, contact Dr. William Carrigan, Rowan University Department of History, at 856-256-4500, x3986, or carrigan@rowan.edu.
