Qualified Vineland high school graduates will automatically land seats in the Rowan University mathematics program as a result of a new articulation agreement to be signed by Rowan University and Vineland Public Schools representatives on Thursday, March 24, at 9 a.m. in the Media Room of Vineland High School South (2880 E. Chestnut Ave., Vineland).

This is the first agreement of its kind for the Rowan Mathematics Department and Vineland Public Schools. As part of the agreement, qualified Vineland high school students must graduate in the top 20 percent of their class, with a minimum overall GPA of 3.25 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in mathematics courses. In addition, they must earn at least 1650 on their SATs (a minimum of 600 on the math, 550 on the verbal and 500 on writing) and complete a sequence of high school mathematics courses culminating in Precalculus, Honors Calculus, or Advanced Placement Calculus, earning at least a ?B? in each math course. Up to 10 Vineland graduates can be accepted to Rowan through this program each year.

Dr. Jay Harper, dean of Rowan?s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, said this agreement builds upon an ongoing relationship between Rowan and Vineland Public Schools and further enhances learning opportunities for Vineland graduates.

?We recognize that Vineland high schools prepare students for college work utilizing innovative teaching methods, particularly in mathematics, and have a history of providing high quality graduates for admission to Rowan,? he said. ?As seats in our freshmen class become increasingly competitive, this agreement ensures that the best and brightest from a South Jersey high school can receive a high quality education in a regional public university.?
