Rowan University has initiated a collaborative program with La Serena University in Chile that will lead to opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and cooperative academic activities such as courses, conferences, symposia and seminars.
The Rowan-La Serena agreement is one of several international programs developed this year by Rowan?s International Center, which supports and coordinates international and intercultural initiatives at the University. The International Center offers students the opportunity to study in 170 programs in more than 50 countries, and its direct exchange options include programs in Germany, Ecuador and Korea. This year Rowan also signed exchange agreements with the University of San Francisco at Quito in Ecuador and Korea University in Seoul. The University also approved an International Master?s of Business Administration program in Greece to start in 2005.
The La Serena agreement will build on relationships two professors already have developed with the Latin American university. Dr. Zenaida Otero Gephardt, Chemical Engineering, has worked with a La Serena professor on developing a natural product to color white, farm-raised salmon pink, and Dr. Maria Rosado, Geography and Anthropology, has conducted forensic archeology research on skeletal remains as much as 3,000 years old.
