One hundred sixty six Rowan University juniors and seniors were inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society on this past Monday. This is the second class at Rowan to be inducted into the Society, which was charted at Rowan last year.

During the ceremony, the University also honored New Jersey State Senator Wayne Bryant into the Society. Bryan?s nationally recognized welfare reform plan is credited as being part of the reason unemployment rates have fallen in the state. He has also worked diligently to help provide impoverished families gain access to educational and vocational opportunities that enable them to make the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. These accomplishments, combined with his commitment to community development and the advancement of academic excellence, made Bryant a prime candidate for induction.

In addition to honoring Bryant, the society also inducted Rowan Provost Helen Giles-Gee and Professor Larry Litwin, recognizing their commitment to higher education and dedicated service to Rowan University. Companies Rapp Collins Worldwide, Inc., and Dimension Data were also honored.

Members of the Rowan University Chapter rank in the university?s top 15 percent of juniors and seniors. They are committed to the pursuit of academic achievement and campus and community services, including bringing scholarly speakers to campus, beginning a mentoring program with all incoming freshmen honor students and attending international and regional conferences across the United States.

The mission of Golden Key International Honor Society, a nonprofit academic honors organization, is to recognize and encourage scholastic achievement and excellence in all undergraduate fields of study, to unite with faculty and administrators in developing and maintaining high standards of education, to provide economic assistance to outstanding members by means of both undergraduate and graduate scholarships and to promote altruistic conduct through voluntary service.
