The president of Central Connecticut State University in April will recommend to the board of trustees that
the institution hire long-time Rowan University faculty member and dean Pearl Bartelt as vice president of
academic affairs.

Bartelt, a Pitman resident for 26 years, joined the then Glassboro State College faculty in 1972 as an
assistant sociology professor and served as an associate professor and professor before being named dean of
the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1991.

She earned a B.Sc. in education and an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from The Ohio State University. She
also studied education at the University of Delaware. She taught at Community College of Philadelphia and
was a visiting senior research fellow at the University of Surrey (England).

Bartelt, long active in university leadership roles, also has been active in her community. She served on the
Pitman Board of Education for six years, including a term as president.

Central Connecticut State University, located in New Britain, Conn., has approximately 11,000 students
and, like Rowan University, is a comprehensive institution.
