A play based on the book <+>Fall River Outrage: Life, Murder, and Justice in Early Industrial New England<+>
by Rowan University professor David Kasserman was recently staged in Bristol, Rhode Island, and starred
renowned actor Anthony Quinn.

Kasserman, of Haddonfield, is a cultural anthropologist and member of the Rowan University Geography
and Anthropology Department.

He became interested in the 19th century Fall River story of the murder of a young female textile worker and
the community's response to that crime while researching his doctoral dissertation on industrial
development.

His book, published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in 1986, details the Avery Murder Trial of
1833, during which a local minister was tried for the murder.

Proceeds from the recent play production will be used to restore the Bristol County Courthouse and
Statehouse.
