Professors honored at Rowan convocation

Two professors were honored for excellence and service at Rowan University's annual convocation at Pfleeger Concert Hall Monday morning.

Nicholas Yovnello, of Elk Township, a professor/assistant director of Library Services, was honored with the fourth annual Joseph A. Barnes Award for Outstanding Service to Rowan University.

A member of the library staff for 36 years, Yovnello has served on the university Senate for 25 consecutive years and on the local union chapter of the American Federation of Teachers for 33 years. He is the only person at Rowan to ever serve as both senate and union president. For the past six years, Yovnello has served as the president of the Council of New Jersey State College Locals, and was recently elected for a fourth term to the umbrella organization of New Jersey state colleges and universities.
