GLASSBORO -- A South Jersey businessman who wants to remain anonymous has donated $375,000 to Rowan University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Rowan has not yet determined what, specifically, the money will be used for, officials said.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the largest of Rowan's six colleges, offering 16 undergraduate programs and three graduate degrees. The college also supports the Liberal Arts and Sciences Institute for Research and Community Service, which was founded at Rowan in 1993 to enhance faculty research and community service.

''Gifts such as this one reinforce the work we're doing and the positive changes we're making,'' Dean Jay Harper said.

The university took in more than $12 million in private donations during fiscal year 2001, about $5 million of which came from the industrialist Henry Rowan's $100 million 1992 gift.
