Rowan University is extending the enrollment deadline for incoming first-year students to June 1, a decision made in response to significant delays stemming from the implementation of the 2020 FAFSA Simplification Act.

The Act introduced a substantial overhaul of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application process. While these changes are intended to make the financial aid process more straightforward for students and families, they have resulted in delays in data processing and dissemination, impacting prospective students’ ability to make informed decisions about their education.

“We understand the challenges students and their families are facing,” said Darren Wagner, vice president for Strategic Enrollment Management. “Ensuring access to an affordable education lies at the cornerstone of Rowan’s mission. This extension underscores our dedication to supporting students during this time of uncertainty.”

Understanding the weight of this decision, the university acknowledges the importance of providing ample time and resources for students to carefully consider their options.

“Our priority is to deliver comprehensive financial aid packages as quickly as possible. We are committed to taking the necessary steps to expedite the process and ensure that every student's unique financial needs are addressed promptly and efficiently,” said Wagner.

As a partner institution of the College Cost Transparency Initiative, Rowan provides clear communication about tuition, fees and financial aid options. The University’s goal is to empower students to make informed decisions about their educational investments.

“By participating in this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to providing students and their families with clear and comprehensive information regarding the costs associated with attending our institution,” said Director of Financial Aid Heidi Kovalick. “We are working to overcome the delays caused by the U.S. Department of Education’s updates to the FAFSA processes mandated by Congress. Our office is fully prepared to release financial aid offers and provide assistance to students as soon as we can, which we project will be the later part of April.”
